Reading, Watching But Sadly No Writing [Jul. 8th, 2010|12:12 pm]

[music |Lisa Gerrard & Pieter Bourke - The Insider]

A couple of weeks ago, I finished reading Wikinomics by Don Tapscott and Anthony D. Williams. This morning during the power outage at work, I finished an out-of-print book about the Hugh Otis Bynum murder conspiracy trial entitled Lay Down with Dogs.

Went on a Amazon bargain-bin binge recently, picking up a copy of David Horowitz's The Art of Political War for my bookshelf. (I had borrowed a copy from a friend.)

I've also picked up some new DVDs. I think it's been about a year since I've bought DVDs. I bought Season 1 of Leverage. The show is fantastic and entirely shot on the Red One. Several of the cast members have Twitter accounts (list). John Rogers, co-creator, and writer runs a blog over at http://kfmonkey.blogspot.com/. You can ask any question about the show and he will answer it. Right now, they are doing it an episode at-a-time as the episodes are aired.

I also bought a copy of The Insider so I don't have to keep streaming it off of Netflix and I finally added Heavens Fall to my DVD collection. Heavens Fall the Scottsboro Boys starring Timothy Hutton, David Strathairn, Leelee Sobieski and Azura Skye.

I first saw Heavens Fall my first year of Sidewalk. That would be back in 2006. Heavens Fall was the closing film that year and played at the Alabama Theater in downtown Birmingham. During the Q & A following the film, the director, Terry Green, announced that we had a VIP guest in the audience. It turned out to be the son of Judge Horton.

When Mr. Horton stood up, he received a standing ovation. The atmosphere in the theater was electric. I knew I was part of history that day and have fondly carried the memory with me ever since. Now I have made the film part of my collection.

Reading & Watching

I seem to be doing much of the same, really. I want to get back into writing and get nuggets of blogs coming to me all the time, apart from when I sit down to actually write something. It sucks.
I've tried to get together a notepad and attempt to jot things down, but it hasn't really worked so far.

Good to hear that you're still getting as much done as you can! :)

Re: Reading & Watching

I've got a list of topics a mile long, but when I've had the time to sit down and write about them, they haven't been important. Go figure.

I would love to see you start writing again. If you were to write, where would you do it? Here? Xanga? Elsewhere?

Glad you liked the post.

Re: Reading & Watching

I'm doing my part to not let Xanga die, despite the fact I can hear its death-rattle from here.

Re: Reading & Watching

I'm curious to know how you're doing your part to not let Xanga die. I thought that you quit cross-posting about a year ago.

Re: Reading & Watching

You won't be wondering that this time tomorrow. And I did. A year ago this month.

I'm filled with trepidation pondering what might be.

Never heard of the movie, but I'm a big fan of Leelee.

I can't recommend Heavens Fall highly enough. Of course, as you can see, I have a great personal attachment to the film because I feel like I was a small part of the history of both the film, the story and Alabama history.

P.S. How do you like my shopping avatar?

OMG that's funny. I noticed it, yes - in fact had to double-check the username as I'd not seen it before, but had no idea what it meant. I thought it meant you were "empty" or "homeless."

It would work for both of the situations that you listed.

I wanted to use the Amazon shopping cart for an avatar, but I didn't want to rip them off. So I looked for a shopping cart instead. I didn't want to do groceries as I was talking about buying non-edible items so I wanted something as generic as possible. I believe that I accomplished my goal!

Who are you ripping off with the picture you chose? Are they less important than ripping off Amazon? How does that work?

It was from the WikiMedia Commons.
