Hrm. Maybe take that back and get a Canon PowerShot? Something in the A-Series perhaps? You might be much happier.
Perhaps. I'm hoping that this is more a thing of me not knowing how to use the camera right out of the box rather than a flaw of the machine itself. I'm a Nikon man. I want a D series whichever body I end up with. Both of my friends have Nikons and they wouldn't trade them for anything in the world.
Yes, it's possible I'm being narrow minded, but once I have a real camera, these problems will go away--problems, I might add, that I knew I would have going in. (Well, ok, not the inability to rapid fire, but other things like setting the white balance for instance.)
It does seem to be the case, however, if you turn off all the automatic shit, the machine is much usable, but as I'm not a photographer (I don't feel qualified to call myself one at this point in time) it's possible that this product wasn't marketed to someone as dumb as me. Then again, perhaps it's all the Fisher Price hand-holding bullshit that makes this product unsuable.

I hope you didn't pay a lot for that camera. My Canon uses a High-Density SD card and snaps back-to-back like a bobcat on booze when in 'Continuous Mode.'
Also, if you can't figure out a P&S, you're head is going to explode trying to figure out a DSLR. That being said dude, I don't think its the camera.
Neither do I. Didn't I just say that perhaps I have a ways to travel on the learning curve?

You didn't actually. That was in your edit, which I read after my comment was posted. If you like, I can provide copies of the original, as well as the edit for comparison.
And this was after I told you in our IM conversation not to respond yet because I was editing. Words mean shit.
And to think that you actually wrote for a paper. Wow dude. Just wow.
Now that's funny! Because I saw you type that - I read it, but given that we were corresponding about something entirely different on AIM, I actually wondered aloud at my desk, "What the fuck is he talking about."
So yeah, I wrote for a small town paper.
But your lack of context in communication is known far and wide, and I dare say, the inscription on your tombstone when, God forbid, that time comes, will likely read: "He was a dumbass."
No, I think the problem is that in your old age, you can't concurrently process like I can.
Its precisely these assumptions which fuel your notoriety for lack of context. Obviously I wouldn't be able to accomplish what I do were it not for precisely the thing you assume I no longer have.
I do find it odd that the only place you can apply this skill is at your workplace where no one here in the real world can verify. Very Clintonesque.
Yes, dumbass. Clinonesque. What I do is not the real world. Delivering pizza - now that's the real world. Ergo, I'm a liberal.
Who is this pizza delivery guy you keep talking about?
As for price, I'm $250 all in with a year's warranty, two 4GB HD cards, an extra battery and a soft-hard shell carrying case. I was advised by a photographer here to get the faster cards, but when I asked at the store, she said I wouldn't see a difference with this camera. He seemed to think that there would be a nominal difference but gave me good advice: next time I need/want a card, get a faster card and see if there's a difference in speed just like he did when he was starting out.
the canon g10 is probably the p&s i'd get now, i'm going to get the g11 when it comes out, but the g10 has lots of swell manual features and a hot-shoe, which means you can use studio strobes with it (don't know if you would, but i'm excited about that). the d-whatever is going to rock your world when you get it. have fun shooting. & let me know how it goes.
I'll keep you posted, pun intended! ;)

You know I just did this to piss you off. Actually, it pissed me off, because I saw what I wanted on the LCD screen, but I had to figure out how to turn the flash off which took much more time than it should have. Then I had to adjust the color compensation, etc. to finally get the same image I saw on the LCD screen. But I got it finally.
When I boot up my laptop later today, I'll post a more exposed picture, but honestly, I think that my original instead of this overblown, grainy image was actually quite a cool picture.
What did you think of the boxtop photo?

HUFFY NO MORE!
That's awesome dude.
Have fun with the new camera...sounds like you're off to a great start ;)
It's possible that it's the n00b user that's the problem, but I agree that if I learn how to properly use this tool it will come in handy and increase the effectiveness of my posts.
