Dieting Sucks! [May. 27th, 2009|02:42 pm]

[music | Alan Silvestri - Cast Away]

Last night I tried the track near my house. It wasn't bad, but it did leave a lot to be desired. I looked up the place I wanted to go originally. They have a track, but it's going to be a bit more of a drive than what I am wanting to make methinks. If I get out of here right on time tonight (I've got the late shift) I think I'll try going there and walking, then home, change clothes, eat, maybe shower and head off to write for a couple of hours.

I didn't make it to Barnes & Nobel last night because I was looking for a Powerpoint presentation that appears to no longer be on the web. I thought I had downloaded it to my computer, but I couldn't find it. In fact, I'm kinda pissed with OS X right now because it didn't list in in the presentations when searched. I don't know if this is a bug or not as the presentation was on an external drive that is never removed from the system and it backed up via Time Machine.

If I do make it to Barnes & Nobel tonight, I think I will attempt to work on my Angels & Demons review, but that will be a bitch without wireless. I hate AT&T despite their gift of C, C++ and Unix.

So I am about to eat lunch. I was going to Pulse about how the soup that has egg noodles has less calories than the soup with rice--90 calories vs. 120 calories per serving. As I was setting my bowl on the counter to open the microwave, I tipped it back and spilt half the content on the floor. That's the whole point of dieting, isn't it?
At least I'm sticking to my dieting plan on Day 2. FML!

The statement:

In fact, I'm kinda pissed with OS X right now because it didn't list in in the presentations when searched. I don't know if this is a bug or not as the presentation was on an external drive that is never removed from the system and it backed up via Time Machine.

Conflicts with:

I thought I had downloaded it to my computer, but I couldn't find it.

In other words, you may turn in a bug report on a function in which the problem is that you *actually* didn't download something you thought you had? Good luck with that.

Instead of getting all globally pissed off at Apple, perhaps you should just get pissed off at yourself.

I did write this post in a hurry, so I apologize if there is any confusion.

I couldn't remember whether or not I had downloaded the presentation. Turns out that I did. I found it because I put the presentation in my blogging folder. That folder sits on the external drive. When I told Finder to display all the presentations on the machine, it should have showed this one, but it didn't.

Yes. That's a feature of Spotlight. Kinda like when your on an XP box and you left-click 'Start' some menus and shit pop-up. NOT a bug. Its supposed to do that. I'm glad we had a chance to clear that up.

We haven't cleared anything up. I said I told Finder to show me all the presentations and this presentation didn't come up. By definintion, this means that the feature didn't work.

Discuss.

I did write that reply in a hurry, so I apologize if there was any confusion:

Spotlight does NOT display files on external devices.
The folder in which your download was in sits on the external drive. When you told Finder to display all the presentations on the machine, it should NOT have shown that one. Finder did exactly what it was supposed to do. There is no, "bug."

Spotlight does display files on external drives. What it doesn't do is search the external drive if you don't have the root folder selected first.

Sorry to hear about your suck OS - I just found out what OS stood for when I was doing my research for a new laptop *embarassed face*. You should get your Angels and Demons review up on livejournal if you could, as I really wanted to see that movie but I could use a review first.
