I'm utilizing LJ's re-post button to quickly spread the word about something that we should all think about, even if we shouldn't all go comment on it:

Our friend lxbean
was arrested yesterday for observing the police accosting a drug user passed out near her front steps*
. Reading her story it's amazing and frightening how quickly things go from "fine" to "put your hands behind your back!" and how bad these people were at de-escalation. They kept her in handcuffs for three hours before letting her go, hoping, I suppose, that she'd learned a lesson about standing up for other people. I'm glad she's not willing to let them get away with it. Advice, contacts, sympathy, and story sharing on her blog
Really, you need to read the post
before you form your opinion. Here, on my blog, I think this should become a discussion of our rights as Americans and perhaps human rights in general; on lxbean
's blog, we should just stick to the facts and offer support as we interpret the law.
Call this a think-tank post.
I may edit this post with my response...at least, I have some thoughts for lxbean
on the topic and thoughts in general. I'd be happy to hear yours too.
