So I made it out to the event tonight which was much different than I imagined. There weren't as many folks as I thought would be there and it was held in a pavilion which I didn't piece together was an open building in a park. Yes, I know, I'm a dumbass.

I did alright with the camera. The first thing I did was white balance which is probably the only thing that saved my butt. The sun was going down and Les was on the dark end of the pavilion which was not the ideal photographic environment. I couldn't figure out why my pictures were coming out so dark until I remembered the compensation setting so I only got like two good snaps. In all, I took 11 images while taking furious notes. My next task is to write up the event for News Platoon so I can use my images.

I will definitely need to play with the camera more to figure out how to use it, but I think I've made a good investment. Right now, I still think I do better with all the auto stuff turned off. We'll see about turing that stuff on in the future if it will make my life easier.

I still want the D60.

Also, I think iPhoto is the best piece of software invented, ever.

In other news, since ehowton wants more pictures, I decided I'd play with my tripod and take a picture of my desk.

Thanks. Now you know what kind of a mess I sit in when I write. This is also why I bought a laptop.

Imagine my surprise this morning when I saw that you deleted the photo of your desk and put a "Mystery Photo" behind a cut.

Now imagine how underwhelming it was to discover that it was the same photo previously posted in the open, thus removing even a hint of mystery.

Glad to see the camera's working out though - and its nice to see "where it all happens." Might I suggest you clean off your desk?

I dislike iPhoto simply because it make CLI & filesystem browsing of pictures nearly IMPOSSIBLE. Ugh.

HOORAY FOR PICTURES!!!

I didn't delete anything. Is it possible that your notifications show everything behind a cut?

I don't have sex on my desk.

Might I suggest you clean off your desk?
Suggest away.

If you're smart like me, you've already found where iPhoto stores its images. Alas, when everything is named DSC005298.jpg CLI access doesn't really help when you're looking for something. Besides, iPhoto is about arranging photos and the number of pictures that I'm about to go through...well, let's just say that you should be glad that it's me with iPhoto instead of you with a file system.

It is.

You don't have sex, ever. With anyone. Not even yourself. So obviously that wasn't what I was suggesting.

Suggest away.
Thank you. Instead of sitting in your own filth to write, simply clean it the fuck off.

And of course your enormous brain doesn't compensate for the fact that within the iPhoto folder (which you were able to find because you're smart) are directories of years, and each year contains months and each month contains days. While that's fantastic for visual browsing, it makes CLI & file browsing both a gigantic pain in the ass. When I'm copying photos via secure shell, I need to be able to use unix commands, not iPhoto.

Because you obviously have more money than sense, and with your blogs lately lamenting the former, what does that really tell us?

Did you ever stop to consider that maybe you're using the wrong tool for the job? Perhaps you should export your files from iPhoto first and then scp them.

Oh, I'm sorry - my comment wasn't meant as an opening for you to suggest other tools for me - Picasa (as but a single example) is now available for OSX and does what iPhoto does utilizing, if you so chose, a single, flat directory. The best of both worlds so to speak.

No, I was simply elaborating on why I disagreed that iPhoto is the best piece of software invented, ever.
