Dull [Mar. 6th, 2009|12:54 pm]

When asked to describe this blog in one word, ehowton choose "dull." A close second was pedantic.

If you had to describe this blog in one word, what would it be? If you had to describe your blog in one word, what would be it? Justify your answers.

Mine: Fascinating. And since you're allowing close seconds: Multifaceted. Let me explain. I write about a variety of topics, and do a variety of things. You however, mostly don't post at all. That's very very old, very quick. But when you do post, they're all variations on the same theme: Why the government sucks, or why you thought some dull movie was thought-provoking. Those are dull topics. Don't be a dull boy. Have a nice day!

I'm glad you took the time to respond to this post.

Fascinating
I'm not sure this is a word that I would use to describe your blog. Well, at least, not immediately. I looked it up on dictionary.com. This is what they had to say:

of great interest or attraction; enchanting; charming; captivating

By that definition, I would agree.

When I say something is fascinating, I think of knowledge that I'm obsessed with like say, programming. I always want to know how a piece of code works and I will spend hours trying to figure it out. I develop an expert mentality and leave no stone unturned.

I'm not obsessed with your blog, but I look forward to your daily excursions. Only God knows where the rabbit hole will lead each time you post.

You however, mostly don't post at all.
Some of us have to work for a living. I don't as of yet have enough readers that will allow me to quit my day job and live off of the ad revenue.

Why the government sucks
I must say, Sir, I'm surprised that you take personal affront to this. Even the Founding Fathers wrote and spoke endlessly of the evils of government interfering in people's lives. I thought you were a libertarian and thus believed that "your rights stop at mine" and that government is best when it is small and fears the people.

why you thought some dull movie was thought-provoking
I admit that my review skills need polishing. However, you must understand that this is the industry I dream of getting into some day and so I see more there than the average Joe. Besides, I don't like the movies you like.

I don't. I just hate to hear people endlessly bitch. No matter what you post about, if you're going to do nothing but endlessly bitch, all you'll have accomplished in the end is being known as an endless bitcher. No matter the point you're trying to make, or how deftly you're able to do it, at the end of the day, all you've really done is endlessly bitched. Say what you will about Obama for example, the son of a bitch didn't just bitch - he got up off his ass and became President! Its unheard of! And while it gives you something more to endlessly bitch about, he did more than endlessly bitch - he went out and made a difference! There's two kinds of people in this world, those who do, and those who endlessly bitch. I know you'd like to think you're a real man of action, a go-getter, but you do so by endlessly bitching. I'd hate to see your headstone: "He bitched endlessly."

This is why your numerous posts about why the government sucks gets the 'Dull' rating - not because of my personal political views.

And Hitler became Chancellor and then The Fuher.

he went out and made a difference!
Hitler made a difference too.

So what have you done in this forum today besides bitch?

Today? Honestly? Today I've received permission from the editor of the Anna News to reprint in full my speech to the city council on freedom. It will be posted tomorrow. I do much, much more than bitch, sir, as I beseech you also, to do.

You bring up Hitler. That's awfully shortsighted. You know who also did more than bitch? CHURCHILL. Think on that.

Stalin. Genghis Khan. Mussolini.

You're talking about people who made a difference, specifically saying that Obama is a better person because than I because he got up off his ass. Well so have the people I've mentioned. Are they better than me too because they got up off their ass?

YES! Outside your strawman tendencies, and despite their flawed views, they did something other than just endlessly bitch - they followed their dream to fruition. Imagine how powerful you could become if you followed in their footsteps and fought for good rather than evil instead on bitching endlessly in a sub-standard venue! REACH FOR THAT BRASS RING!

I'm fighting for good in my own small way: I'm exercising my First Amendment rights to decry the error of the current administration. I am too young to legally be elected to office. Are you suggesting that I assassinate the president?

If I was going to use one word to describe your blog, it would probably be provoking. We have very different views on the world, your take on things makes me re-think my take on things. I've enjoyed the debates we've had back and forth muchly.

If I was going to describe my blog, I'd say: Inconsequential. Nothing I post about has any substance to it. It's all nonsensical babbling.

provoking

How 'bout inflammatory? :D

We have very different views on the world
It would be a dull place if everyone thought like me. Not that it would be bad, just dull.

your take on things makes me re-think my take on things
Thank you sir! You have no idea how much of a compliment that is to me.

To be fair, I've tried to glean from the advice you give in the various computer communities.

I've enjoyed the debates we've had back and forth muchly.
Me too! I look forward to more of the same in the future.

I like getting different perspectives. It's what makes you grow. If as a person one can't see someone's side of the argument, I think it makes that person very narrow-minded and dull. Being able to see both sides of an argument doesn't make one wishy-washy; it does, however, help them gain perspective. Because there are always two sides to every story and the truth is somewhere between the two, an intelligent person will look at both sides, be able to parse the facts from the bullshit and arrive at an optimal solution, much like reaching an equilibrium in an economic game.

If I was going to describe my blog, I'd say: Inconsequential.
I find your site to be a window into your soul--in a word (since that's the game) thoughtful. Looking back on what we think is never inconsequential; we can see where we have come from and where we are going. It's how we measure ourselves.

Humorous. The things you post usually give me a laugh or two. Not to mention your and ehowton's engaging comments at each other. Good stuff there.

I'm glad you find my site--uh, shall we say--sunshine on a cloudy day. As for ehowton and I's bantering...it's how we roll. Been rolling that way since the day we met.
